Chugga chugga choo choo! All aboard folks, all aboard! In case you haven’t heard yet, a pretty unique tour is traveling across the south in vintage rail cars, the Railroad Revival Tour.

Mumford and Sons

In 1970 acts like Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead, The Band, etc. toured on train across Canada. Now, in 2011 it’s happening all over again, but this time in the American Southwest, and who’s boarding the train this time around you ask? Oh well, none other than Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros and Old Crow Medicine Show.

Over the course of a week (April 21-27) these bands will make a total of six stops, starting all the way out West in California and making Louisiana their last. Among the cities that are part of this railroad revival include: Oakland, CA, San Pedro, CA, Tempe, AZ, Marfa, TX, Austin, TX, and New Orleans, LA.

The RRT Official Website shares:

“Today’s mass transit is built for speed and volume, which suits our modern lifestyle. But sometimes the notion of landscape and discovery is left behind. The RRT is an effort to re-imagine that landscape, the experience of the journey, and to re-discover what happens in between destinations. The inaugural Railroad Revival Tour train is more than 1,500 feet long. It features 15 vintage railcars pulled by 2 locomotives, and is set to travel more than 2,000 miles over tracks that stretch across five states.”

They are doing a ticket lottery today (April 7th, 2011)  on their Facebook, so if you’re looking to be a part of this, go check it out before it’s too late!
